Rondo Workshop Schedule

Rondo Workshop Schedule -- A schedule of Monday night workshops at Rondo Library presented by St. Paul E-Democracy.


Workshops are being offered by SPED-Outreach on Mondays at the Rondo Library, 7:00pm - 8:30pm. The classes are free, and their purpose is to familiarize participants with various digital tools for public participation. SPED-Outreach volunteers will also be tabling from 4-6 most Mondays to provide visibility and one-on-one computer assistance.

Nov. 5 -- Online Tools for Community Organizing St. Paul E-Democracy volunteers will demonstrate new tools of community organizing and how some people are using them to improve their communities.

Nov. 19 -- New Tools for Public Participation St. Paul E-Democracy volunteers will demonstrate powerful internet tools for organizations and individuals wishing to be more active in their communities. Bring your ideas and questions!

Nov. 26 -- Internet Safety This workshop will be presented by Karina Berzins, Training and Education Coordinator, MN Bureau Of Criminal Apprehension, Internet Crimes Against Children.

December 2007

Dec. 3 -- Online Video This workshop will provide you with hands-on experience producing and publishing your own videos using free software and websites, and will feature examples of how citizens and community groups have recently used online video.

Dec. 10 -- Opening the Virtual Doors of Government Robbie LaFleur and Helen Burke will show you how to contact elected officials and follow legislation online, and will talk about other local, state and federal government resources. Come with questions!

This workshop will be about recording and posting video online, with a particular focus on the popular website YouTube. It will include a significant hands-on portion, which will give participants the opportunity to film, edit and possibly upload their own video project.

Jan. 28 -- Internet Safety

February 2008

Feb. 4 -- The State Legislature Online

Prepare to be involved and informed during the upcoming legislative session by learning how to follow issues, track bills and connect with legislators.

Feb. 11 -- Blogging

A blog is a website for sharing your thoughts online. This workshop will help you set one up and will show you how to use it to share your ideas and opinions with the world.

Google's various web tools.


March 2008

March 3 -- Online Tools for E-Citizenship

Learn to use the internet to become more informed and involved with your community.

March 10 -- Social Networking

Discover online social networking and learn how you can participate in an existing network or create your own using sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Ning.

March 17 -- Building Your Own Website

This workshop will introduce you to the basics of creating a website, from HTML to content management systems and hosting. We'll show you what to consider when setting up websites large and small.

March 24 -- Online Video

Today it is easier than ever to use video to make yourself heard. This workshop will provide you with hands-on experience producing and publishing your own video using free software and websites.

March 31 -- Cool Tools: Online Maps and Geotagging

Thanks to online mapping tools, you can now create professional-quality maps from your home computer for free. Join E-Democracy for an exploration of some of these tools and their uses.

April 2008

April 7 -- How to Create a Community Blog

Learn how to use a blog to report on community news and share important information with your neighbors.

April 14 -- Podcasting: Your Voice, Online

A podcast is a radio-style show distributed over the internet to anyone who wants to listen. Learn how to record your own podcast and post it online.

Learn how to protect your computer, your personal information and your children at this essential workshop.

April 28 -- Cool Tools for Community Organizing

St. Paul E-Democracy volunteers will demonstrate new tools for community organizing and how some people are using them to improve their communities.
