Perceptions of crime

From E-Democracy.org

Discussions about specific crime incidents both new and past on neighborhood-level forums are likely to increase the perception of increased crime in your area.

Being a victim of crime, be it a burglarly or something more serious, is intensely personal and violating. Instead of hearing just about incidents a few doors down or maybe a street away over the back fence, you now will hear stories covering hundreds of blocks in your community.

Please refer to official crime statistics from your local police (here are some Twin Cities links) to help you put things in perspective.

Also, please do use your forum to help organize and promote crime prevention activities. Let the access to information you were once denied forum strengthen your resolve, not heighten your fear.
