Online groups for connecting people interested in the use of technology for government transparency, public participation, collaboration, and community building. Please add the "two-way" places with real life to them.
E-Democracy.org directly hosts some key spaces, CityCamp for general local open government/transparency/participation, Digital Inclusion, and Locals Online for hosts of local online forums/blogs/social networking groups.
As part of our educational mission, we monitor most of these spaces and forward notable content via the Democracies Online Newswire and @democracy on Twitter.

Background
There are dozens of online groups, from those on GoogleGroups and Ning-based social networks to group blogs and Twitter hashtag communities, connecting people interested in the use of technology for government transparency, public participation, and community building.
At the national/global level there will never be one unified place people exchange knowledge on these topics as people and interests specialize. However at the local or state level, just online spaces tend to be more unified but almost impossible to find for new people wanting to get involved. So this is our place to start a simple directory of those local/state online groups that are emerging.
