Back to Inclusive Community Engagement Online

E-Democracy encourages those active in the "neighbors online" or online civic engagement field to join the Locals Online community of practice for peer to peer exchange.

In late 2012 or early 2013, special inclusive community engagement online webinars and other basic training will be made available to people and project within interested Knight communities (see map or list below) based on our Inclusive Community Engagement Online grant. Intensive on-site and other training or direct inclusive outreach assistance will also be available with additional local funding.

In addition to the open-to-all online communities of practice we host, there will be opportunities for non-Knight communities anywhere in the world (often based on local community foundation or other funder support) to join more hands-on and intense knowledge sharing or pilot efforts.

Neighbors Online Directory

Watch this space for updates later in 2012. You may edited in examples via this wiki at anytime. We reserve the right to remove examples that are out of scope or are not currently active. Also, we will use the tag "localsonline" combined with the city name via Delicious to collect possible links for inclusion.

This is a simple wiki-based directory of example online public spaces active within the 26 Knight communities that specifically encourage two-way online community engagement or neighbor to neighbor connecting online.

The key focus is on "many-to-many" experiences or special online civic engagement. The goal of this directory is to document who is already doing this in various communities based our understanding that despite some high profile "network" social media in local public life efforts, that most online neighborhood spaces are under the radar independent examples using a plethora of online tools. Our goal with convening and future training is to increase their distributed success with inclusive outreach and foster peer to peer knowledge exchange.

This directory welcomes online news sites with specific online engagement programming. However, this directory is not for typical online news sites that limit public interaction to comments on news stories or blog posts. See the Knight News Network for journalism-centric resources and their excellent broader directory.

While not a Knight community, we produced this directory for Seattle prior to hosting a workshop in that community.
