March 2 Update - Forums set-up in progress - March 2 Update
Neighbours Forums connect people online in community life. To assist post-earthquake community recovery, a volunteer-based network of 17 forums covering Christchurch is being started. Details below.
These forums use real names to build neighbourly trust. Participate via e-mail or the web. Facebook Page and Twitter options will be turned on once a specific forum is opened with 50 founding members.
Select a forum, then click "Join Now" to register:
- Banks Peninsula
- Lyttelton and Bays - Example
- Sumner and Mt. Pleasant
- New Brighton
- St. Albans
- Christchurch Central (live there, own a business, work)
Join the forum that is closest to where you live (rough map). Based on demand we will open more and consolidate others.
Forums are accessible for reading and posting via e-mail or the web (using technology built in Christchurch). They may also be followed via Facebook and Twitter once they open for posting.
To get involved with the overall effort, join the long-time Canterbury Issues Forum.
- Christchurch Neighbours project notes - As forums open, project notes are moving here
The forum's description will further define the geographic scope along with the interests of the people who join.
If you feel a distinct community that should stand alone (the population should be over 5,000 and ideally at least 10,000) needs a forum and are willing to help start it up, drop us a note: email@example.com
Know of existing local online spaces that connect Christchurch area neighbors in conversation? Add to the list below. The last thing we want to do is create an new online group that no one joins because they are better served elsewhere.
